erose-Hermes
Hermes, god of roads and herald to the gods

My Top 10

  1. Hermes was the son of Zeus and the nymph Maia. Zeus was the supreme ruler of the gods who was married to Hera but was known for his affairs and punishing those who lied or broke oaths. Maia was a daughter of the Titan Atlas and was one of the seven mountain nymphs. Hermes was the god of merchants, travelers, shepherds, and even thieves, and he was also messenger of the gods because he was the fastest. He was also a very good negotiator.
  2. Hermes was born in a cave in the mountain of Cyllene, after which his mother fell asleep, allowing him to cause mischief, but this was unknown to her.
  3. When Hermes was only a few hours old he found Apollo's herd of cattle grazing in a field and drove them back home. When he got there, he sacrificed two of the cows, then he took the intestines of the sacrificed cows and put them on the hollowed shell of a tortoise, inventing the first lyre, which is like a violin, and has nine strings in honor of the nine muses. Later, the lyre became an attribute of Apollo because Hermes gave his to Apollo as a gift.
  4. Hermes' symbols, or attributes are a winged travelers cap, and winged sandals which carried him through the sky as messenger of the gods. His other attributes are the caduceus with two intertwined serpents, a tortoise, and a rooster. He was also represented as an athletic young man.
  5. Another task of Hermes was to guide the souls of the dead to the underworld. At the end of the Odyssey, he takes the souls of the dead suitors to the underworld. He also invented different types of races, and the sports of wrestling and boxing.
  6. One of Hermes' many children was Pan, the god of the wilderness, nature, and flocks. Pan's mother is often said to be the nymph Dryope. When Pan was born his mother ran away from him in shock of his goat-like appearance.
  7. Because he was always carrying messages for Zeus and the other gods and goddesses, Hermes was also worshiped as the god of roads.
  8. Citizens of Ancient Greece often made posts or pillars of stone on the roads and at gates to honor his, which were called "herms". The name "Hermes" actually means "pillars".
  9. Hermes also helped many of his favorite mortals accomplish difficult tasks. For instance he helped Perseus defeat Medusa and Odysseus escape the enchantment of Calypso. He also saved the unborn Dionysus from certain death.
  10. Hermes also had the mission of leading the three goddesses, Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite to mount Ida where the shepherd Paris decided which of them was the most beautiful.

I chose these colors to represent Hermes because they're at least semi masculine colors and also because when I think of Hermes I think of blues and greens
